Guillermo del Toro is still my favorite director for his glorious combination of beauty and grotesquery. He mixes cynical real-life brutality with dreamlike fantasy in a way that one flows into the other. Never a jarring contrast that shakes you out of the moment. Pan's Labyrinth is not light entertainment. Don't let the trailers fool you. Release is still limited and fading, so get there. Now!
